Firstly, a little about me

Me on the most fantastic trip I've ever taken: Atacama Desert.

I'm an Electrical Engineer by training, born in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, and moved to Brasília when I was just 2 years old, where I still live.

After pursuing a career as a Liferay developer, I decided I wanted to do more for the ecosystem and the community. That's why I founded Simplify Tecnologia, the company I currently direct.

From the beginning, we have always aimed to foster and expand the Liferay community, initially with our YouTube channel and now with the newsletter and blog on our website. Read to the end to learn more!

In addition, we are helping our partners achieve their Liferay portal delivery goals through our Team as a Service model, consulting, or development.

News about the Liferay world

Liferay recognized in the Gartner Critical Capabilities for Digital Experience Platforms report

Gartner, a globally renowned portal for its market research and technology evaluations, published a report ranking Liferay DXP first in B2E use cases and second in B2B use cases.

Great achievement for our favorite tool. You can access the full report at the link below:

Liferay DEVCON 2024 will be in Budapest, Hungary

Liferay has officially announced the date and location of the event that brings together Liferay developers from around the world. DEVCON 2024 will be in Budapest, Hungary from November 11th to 14th.

For those who follow David Nebinger, Liferay's architect, he had dropped a small hint about the event's location and date before the official announcement.

In addition to this, registrations for the "Call For Papers" are open. You can be a speaker at DEVCON where you can share insights related to Liferay projects.

Changes in certification programs

It was explained that the Liferay certifications have been taken offline. Currently, it is not possible to register for the exam. The reason for this is that Liferay will undergo a change in the certification system.

It's still early to know the consequences of this. We need to wait for announcements on when and how certifications will be made available again.

There is some information in the FAQ on the page below for those interested.

Technical News

2024 Q1 Quarterly Release

Liferay has published the release notes for the first quarter of 2024. Overall, Liferay continues with its proposal to improve the product for content creators, low-code/no-code functionalities, and analytics.

One interesting and new feature is the Copy To for Documents and Media. I recently had to do something similar in a project, however, even being a very new version, it did not yet have the functionality.

The change that caught my attention the most was the addition of the deprecation flag for Java JDK 11.

Analyzing the technologies we currently have available, it is clear that Java has evolved in many aspects since version 11, however, personally, I was not expecting this change but I see it positively.

David delved deeper into the subject and its implications in the following blog:

New content from Simplify

New website!

In order to concentrate our content and ideas that we have for the community, Simplify has launched a new website, using Liferay itself of course.

With a more modern design, we bring information about our services provided, partner testimonials, and an entirely new content section. Don't forget to subscribe to like and comment on the posts.

Soon we will bring other community features to our site. Access everything here.

New content on our new blog!

To debut our new site and blog, we have written 4 contents for our content page. In them, you will find at least one content from our main categories, but what are they?

We will bring content for developers as well as for management, business, and sales professionals. For this, we have 3 main categories on our blog: Management and Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Liferay Development.

Curious? Access our content page at the link below.

In the Management and Innovation category, I wrote an article explaining a bit about the business model we use at Simplify. The Team as a Service, it was created thinking of Liferay partner companies that need support to develop and deliver their projects with quality and on time.

Read more about TaaS at the link below. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact us to show you how we help several companies in situations similar to yours.

Opening the way for Liferay Development blogs, we started with a hot topic in the programming market, React. Have you ever wondered if it's possible to use one of the most famous JS frameworks of the moment?

If so, how is it possible? We brought these answers, and an extra one using Liferay's Headless API, in the two contents below!

And to wrap up, a more introductory content from the Digital Transformation category. In it, we explain what a DXP is and what the highlights of Liferay DXP are.

Liferay Insight

Inaugurating the newsletter, we will also inaugurate the "Liferay Insight" section!

In it, we will bring a tip, a piece of news, or something similar that we find pertinent.

Today, I will share a very common mistake that happens when trying to configure a portal's robots.txt. Most of the time we do this to prevent Google from indexing the pages of our portal.

This can happen when the portal has not yet been launched, or we are in a testing or development environment.

To hide pages from Google's indexing, it is necessary to add its Friendly URL in the Disallow field, located at Site Builder > Pages > Public/Private Pages configuration > Advanced > ROBOTS, or in newer versions at Site Builder > Pages > 3 dots > Configuration > SEO > ROBOTS.

So, to hide ALL pages, just enter the path "/", which contains all the pages. Your Robots field should look like this:

User-Agent: *
Disallow: /

It sounds great, however, when accessing yourdomain.com/robots.txt, it's quite possible that the robots.txt is the same as the initial configuration.

Don't worry, it's a common mistake! For the robots configured in the pages' settings to take effect, the virtual host must be configured.

Having your virtual host set up through the site settings, when accessing the robots URL again, you will now see the expected configuration.

Thank you for getting this far.
